CSR

Meaningful CSR starts with listening

Community needs, shared priorities and a realistic approach to evaluation can guide more thoughtful social initiatives.

Start with an understanding of the community rather than a predetermined activity. Speak with relevant stakeholders, consider existing efforts and listen to perspectives that may otherwise be overlooked. A useful initiative responds to an identified need and recognises the knowledge already present locally.

Agree on objectives, responsibilities and realistic resources before implementation. Think about accessibility, maintenance and what will happen when initial support ends. Community engagement should continue throughout the initiative, providing opportunities to adapt when needs or circumstances change.

Distinguish activities from outcomes when reviewing progress. Participation numbers can describe reach, but they do not by themselves establish lasting impact. Combine proportionate evidence with stakeholder feedback, acknowledge limitations and use the findings to improve future decisions.
